Find a local food bank

Food coops and food ministries - I don't know if everything on this list is up to date as none of them service my area, but groups like this can help stretch your food dollar.

Urban foraging - This interactive map helps you find fruiting trees in your neighborhood. Ask before picking fruit on private property; a polite request has always gotten me a "yes, help yourself."

Bread outlets - google "bread outlet" and your city to see if there's one in your area. Ours closed, but I used to be able to buy day old loaves of bread, English muffins, and baked treats for $.25 per package.
